Palermo Properties

Palermo is the most popular barrio for foreign property purchases in Buenos Aires at present, and in itself contains many different sub-barrios that are each unique in their own right. Here are some property selections from a few of these areas (including Palermo Viejo, Palermo Soho, Palermo Hollywood, Palermo Chico and Las Canitas)…

Palermo Viejo

As its name suggests, the oldest part of Palermo. Centred on Plaza Palermo Viejo, the barrio reflects an older Spanish style in architecture, often “recycled” with modern elements. Well-known figures like Jorge Luis Borges and Che Guevara once lived in this area. Historically a residential area, these days it remains so but is also a great area for restaurants and trendy boutique shops.

Palermo Soho

Palermo Soho is a small area of Palermo Viejo around Plaza Serrano, and it is a newly fashionable area for fashion, design, restaurants, bars and street culture. The atmosphere in many cafés and restaurants strives to be alternative, which makes this area of the city especially popular with young, upper-middle class Argentines as well as foreign tourists and expats. The traditional low houses have been adapted into boutiques and bars, creating a bohemian feel. The square has a crafts fair.

Palermo Hollywood

Palermo Hollywood is an area adjacent to Palermo Viejo, just across the train tracks. It is called Palermo Hollywood because of the high number of film and TV production companies and studios that are based there, and you will often see filming going on in the area. Also, many famous local faces are to be found in its rapidly increasing number of cool, modern bars, cafes, restaurants, nightclubs and apartment buildings. ———————————————————————————————————————
